Sher-Wood Sticks

The story of Sherwood or Sher-wood, like Bauer, is the story of hockey. Sher-Wood is a company with its roots in Quebec, Canada. Founded in 1949 in Sherbourne, Quebec, by the Drolet family, it dominated the wood hockey stick industry between 1950 and 1990, growing and adapting as it did so. In the 2000s, the wood Sherwood hockey stick, particularly the PMPX 9950, remains a favourite. Sherwood hockey sticks now also are composites, a process they began using first in the 1960s.

In the 1950s, Sherwood introduced three-piece sticks. The Sherwood ice hockey sticks of the 1960s were about curved blades and fibreglass wrappings. They began layering the shafts of wood sticks. In the1980s, they introduced into their product line insertable blades. Over the decades, their product line has continued to be strong. Their wood sticks are favored, but the composites are also well received. The Sher-Wood Momentum Hybrid one-piece hockey stick is ideal for juniors. The Sher-Wood Eclipse, also a one-piece composite, is perfect for the senior player.

The PMPX 9950 Sherwood hockey stick is more expensive than most wood hockey sticks. It, however, is worth it. It offers exceptional durability, a longer length for tall players and powerful, controlled shooting. Sher-Wood hockey sticks are in the hands of players Antoine Vermette, Pierre Marc Bouchard and Jason Spezza, as well as goal tender Johann Holmquist. Sher-Wood also supplies the current hockey marvel, Sidney Crosby with his hockey sticks.

The Sher-Wood Feather Lite hockey stick comes in several models. It offers various flex options and blade patterns. The 5030SC is a junior, intermediate and senior Sher –Wood hockey stick. It combines an aspen core with a veneer lamination. The blade is white ash with a fiberglass wrap and Kevlar reinforce wearband. Sherwood goalie sticks also include a Wood Feather-Lite model. Construction is similar with the paddle/blade consisting of fiberglass reinforced with injected polyurethane foam. This provides this Sher-Wood hockey stick with heightened strength and durability.

Sher Wood hockey sticks remain a strong component in the hockey arena today. Sher-Wood is currently the largest hockey supplier of hockey sticks to players worldwide. The company has encouraged use of their sticks through by gaining exclusive rights to supply Canadian Junior “A” Hockey Leagues in the following Canadian provinces: Alberta and Saskatchewan as well as in the Maritimes. Many a child has begun his or her career with a Sher-Wood wood hockey stick. It is all part of a hockey child’s rite of passage.
